Citrine is a yellow to red-orange variety of quartz. This gem has become very popular due to the earth-tone jewelry trend of the last few years. Its colour feels soothing as it can take on the shades of butterscotch and whiskey. These tones come from traces of ferric iron.
Almost all natural citrine (yes, there is a synthetic variety) comes from Brazil. Still, other countries such as Bolivia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar, Namibia, Peru, Russia, South Africa, the United States, and Zambia also contribute, modestly, to the citrine world production.
Citrine is a beautiful gem and is relatively easy to cut (hardness of 7 on a scale of 10) and is available in large sizes, which makes it a great stone for extravagant fantasy cuts.
In the past, citrine used to be called “yellow quartz,” but in 1556, it was renamed possibly because of its citrus-evoking hues. Although its current name has been around for a few hundred years, citrine has been used in jewelry and ornaments for thousands of years.
SERAFINO designs jewelry that contains beautiful citrine cuts. A perfect example of SERAFINO’s savoir-faire is the EQUILIBRIO V ring, a magnificent and delicate work of art!
